Mostly solo, mostly with a backpack. A few trips I keep coming back to.

  1. Aug 2026

    ↗

    Sri Lanka, the thirty-sixth country.

The closest one I had not been to, and I had already looked at it: in Oct 2023 I stood at Dhanushkodi, thirty kilometres of water away, three years before I crossed them. Pidurangala rather than Sigiriya Rock, elephants at Kaudulla, and the top of Little Adam’s Peak in the dark.

  2. Feb 2026

    ↗

    Volcán Acatenango and Fuego, Guatemala.

Climbed Acatenango on a birthday trip in February 2026 and watched Fuego from the saddle. Acatenango is 3,976 m; Fuego erupts every twenty minutes, and I watched it do it all night from the saddle between them. One of the hardest things I have ever done.

  3. 2026

    ↗

    Guatemala · El Salvador.

    Central America, overland.

  4. Aug 2025

    ↗

    Underground caving, Budapest.

Squeezing through unlit limestone passages under a capital city, which is not what most people book Budapest for.

  5. Feb 2025

    ↗

Machu Picchu · Rainbow Mountain, Peru.

Climbed both in the same trip. Rainbow Mountain tops out above 5,000 m, and the altitude is the whole difficulty.

  6. 2025

    ↗

    Peru · Chile.

Two new countries in South America, on the trip built around Machu Picchu.

  7. Jul 2024

    ↗

    Bruny Island, Tasmania.

A trip to see the Southern Lights. The cruise went south of Bruny Island, around 2,200 km from Antarctica, the furthest south I’ve been.

  8. Feb 2024

    ↗

    Cenote Oxman, Yucatán.

Jumping into a freshwater sinkhole in the limestone of the Yucatán. No rope, no ladder out but the one you climbed in on.

  9. Sep 2019

    ↗

    EdgeWalk, CN Tower, Toronto.

Where all of this started: my first trip abroad and my first solo one, built around a hackathon at Waterloo. I have vertigo bad enough that a thirteenth-floor balcony bothers me, and I paid $195 to walk hands-free around a ledge 116 storeys up. I asked how many people had backed out at the top. Sixty-one. I was not the sixty-second.

  10. Jan 2025

    ↗

    London · York · Edinburgh · Ireland.

Three weeks that grew out of a one-hour talk. “UK and Ireland, you have my heart.”

  11. Undated

    ↗

    Thirty-six countries, five continents.

    India · Canada · Switzerland · Spain · Austria · Czechia · Germany · Netherlands · Belgium · France · Luxembourg · Italy · Nepal · UK · USA · Singapore · China · Mexico · Australia · Thailand · Ireland · Scotland · Japan · Peru · Chile · Malaysia · Poland · Slovenia · Hungary · Slovakia · Denmark · Sweden · Türkiye · Guatemala · El Salvador · Sri Lanka. And counting.

The record,
with a backstory.

For how these pieces fit together, there’s the story.
For what I work by, there are the boundaries.
